Social resilience refers to the ability of a state to preserve the cohesion of its society when it is confronted by external and internal stresses caused by socio-political change and/or violent disturbances such as a terrorist attack. It offers an alternative approach for evaluating societies on the basis of the relative strength or weakness of states. Strong states whose strength is based on the use of force in many cases are vulnerable for a succession crisis for example.
